Clean Your Stone Work Surfaces

Stone surfaces are a beautiful and practical addition to your kitchen. In order to keep the
surfaces in perfect condition we recommend reading the care information below.

Natural stone is striking and a unique statement in any kitchen. There are many types of natural
stones all with different properties and characteristics.
For daily cleaning a very mild kitchen surface cleaner or warm water is recommended. Once the
surface has been cleaned it should be dried thoroughly. The Fila Brio is an everyday cleaner that
leaves behind no residue on the surface and as such is a great, low maintenance option.

Natural stones will require sealing as the natural micro pores in the surface mean that an
unsealed surface can potentially stain. It should be remembered that the sealant applied to a
natural stone surface will help to prevent staining but not make the surface stain-proof so care
should still be taken to clean any spills on the surface.
Darker, denser granites generally require less frequent resealing than their lighter counterparts.
For light coloured granites sealing every 12 months is recommended although each granite is
different. Sealing is a relatively quick and easy process and the Lithofin MN Stainstop is
recommended.

Marbles and Quartzites should also be regularly resealed but, in addition, care should be taken
with any acidic substances on the surface. Substances like lemon juice, orange juice,
tomatoes, alcohol etc. can potentially etch a marble or quartzite surface. Many marbles and
quartzites have a high calcium content and the reaction with an acidic substance causes the
surface to feel rough and dull.
Sealing of a marble or quartzite will not prevent etching but there are specialist companies that
offer additional etch protection options and clients are very welcome to speak with our
showroom team about this.

Quartz work surfaces are beautiful, practical and are very low maintenance. Each manufacturer
is likely to have a specific set of maintenance instructions which can be referred to but please
note the below as a general guide for caring for your quartz surfaces.

For stubborn marks on the surface (including tea cup rings) we recommend using a small
amount of Cif Cream. The Cif Cream can be applied on to the surface and then gently
massaged in with small circular motions. The area should finally be rinsed with plenty of water
(this process many need to be repeated a couple of times to fully remove the mark).
